We are delighted to share that our student, Ms. Sherali Pattanaik (Class X), has achieved an extraordinary milestone in the world of Chess.
At just 15 years of age, Sherali has crossed the ELO rating of 2300 points in the July 2025 FIDE rating list — one of the key requirements for becoming a Woman Grandmaster. With this feat:
She has become the highest-rated U-15 girl player in India.
Ranked World No. 3 in the U-15 girls category.
Conferred with the prestigious title of FIDE Master.
Trained under International Chess Grandmaster & Arjuna Awardee, Shri Pravin Thipsay, Sherali has consistently shown exceptional dedication and brilliance. With continued training and international exposure, she is all set to become the first Woman International Master and Woman Grandmaster from Uttarakhand.
We thank Grandmaster Pravin Thipsay for his guidance and encouragement and look forward to supporting Sherali as she scales even greater heights.

Our student Sherali Pattnaik made history in Uttarakhand Chess by winning both the State Senior Men Open and State Senior Women Chess Championships (11–13 Aug 2025) — a first for any girl in the state!
She achieved a perfect score in both events (6/6 in Men’s, 5/5 in Women’s), remaining undefeated throughout.
Sherali will now represent Uttarakhand in the National Senior Men Open and National Senior Women Championships. We are proud of her remarkable achievement and wish her success at the nationals!

Career Counselling Session at DPS Dehradun
Master Souren Chauhan (IV-C)
Souren participated in the International FIDE Chess Tournament held in Ghaziabad on Saturday and Sunday. In an impressive display of skill, he secured 5th position in the Under-8 category, winning a trophy and a cash prize of ₹3500.
The tournament was an open event, featuring players of all age groups. Souren's achievement is all the more remarkable considering he competed against a diverse pool of players and still managed to excel in his category.

Korumdu, Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan that was conducted from 21st to 28th June 2024.
Sherali Patnaik, has secured Best Lady Second Place in Open Category. She has also won 75000 cash prize and conferred with certificate and silver medal.
The Management, Principal Shri B K Singh and faculty congratulated Sherali for her outstanding accomplishment.
One more achievement
Miss Sherali Pattnaik of class IX participated in the 38th MPL National Under 19 Girls Championship organised in Karnal Haryana from 16th September 2024 to 24th September 2024.
She representing Uttarakhand and made us proud by obtaining 7.5 points in 11 rounds.
She secured the first place in the Uttarakhand state Under 19 selection tournament and was chosen to represent the state in the Nationals.
The tournament had participation from all across the country, with girls from over 22 states playing and
Sherali secured the 13th place in the tournament and won 8000 rupees cash prize.
DPS Dehradun Taekwondo Team came with flying colours
The DPS Dehradun Taekwondo team demonstrated outstanding performance in two major championships held in September 2024.
From September 12 to 16, 2024, the team participated in the CBSE Zonal Taekwondo Championship held at Rudra International Public School, Meerut. This prestigious event saw the participation of 170 schools and 1350 players from across the region.
Master Naman Saini showcased exceptional skill and determination, winning the Gold Medal in the U-19 years, under-68 kg category. Dharmagya Madan secured a Bronze Medal in the U-16 years, under-41 kg category, adding another victory to the team's remarkable performance.
The team also took part in the 38th National Taekwondo Championship held in Agra. This event brought together 900 players from across India, making it a highly competitive tournament.
Krishna Jaiswal clinched the Gold Medal, affirming his dominance in his category.
In the team event, the trio of Deepanksh Bagriyal, Naman Saini, and Krishna Jaiswal secured a Silver Medal, showcasing excellent teamwork and technique.
Taksh Chamola added to the team’s success by winning a Bronze Medal in the individual category.
These students were felicitated in the school assembly. The management, Principal Shri BK Singh and staff applauded the commitment, hard work, and passion of the winners. The hardwork of the sports department was clearly reflected in their achievements, bringing pride to the school and setting a high standard for future competitions.

The All India Chess Federation conducts national level chess championships every year in all age groups for boys and girls. The National Junior Chess Championship Girls and Boys (Under 19) will be held from 16th September to 24th September 2024 at Karnal Haryana. For selection for this prestigious tournament, the Uttarakhand State Chess Association organized the Under 19 State Chess Championship from 2-3rd September 2024. Sherali Patnaik of DPS Dehradun is the only girl who participated in both boys and girls categories and proving her worth once again, she secured the first position in the championship with a perfect score of 5 out of 5 in the girls category. She also secured the second position in the boys category. She was felicitated with a trophy and cash prize. Apart from this, the Uttarakhand State Association also felicitated Sherali Patnaik for achieving the first prestigious title of Women Candidate Master. Now she will represent the state of Uttarakhand in the National Junior Chess Championship Under 19 and is expected to make her home state proud in the national tournament as well. Inter DPS National Chess Championship Girls (Open) 2024
The DPS Society annually organizes a National Chess Championship for boys and girls, bringing together talented young chess players from across India. This prestigious event provides a platform for students to showcase their skills and compete at a high level.
This year's Inter DPS National Chess Championship Girls (Open) 2024 was hosted by DPS Mohali on 29th and 30th of August, 2024. The championship saw participation from 40 teams, with each team comprising two girl players, representing schools from all over India. The competition was structured as a six-round event, testing the strategic skills and endurance of the participants.
DPS Dehradun was represented by a two-player team, WCM Sherali Pattnaik of Class 9 E and Kannya Rawat of Class 9 A. These young chess enthusiasts took on the challenge, showcasing commendable skills and determination throughout the event.
WCM Sherali Pattnaik delivered an outstanding performance, winning all six matches she played. Her strategic acumen and poise under pressure were evident in each game, earning her the title of “Best Player of the Championship”. This remarkable achievement highlights her talent and dedication to the game of chess.
Principal Shri B K Singh congratulated the students for the exceptional performance of DPS Dehradun's team, especially WCM Sherali Pattnaik, who is a source of great pride for the school.
Sherali Patnaik of Class 9 of *DPS Dehradun* participated in the 34th MPL National Under 17 Girls Championship held at Punjab University Chandigarh from 15th July 2024 to 23rd July 2024.
She made us proud by scoring 8 points in 11 rounds while representing Uttarakhand.
She secured first position in the Uttarakhand State Under 17 Selection Tournament and was selected to represent the state at the national level.
Girls from more than 22 states from all over the country participated in this tournament and
Sherali secured 6th position in the tournament and won a cash prize of Rs 25000.
She also became the first female player from Uttarakhand to achieve a FIDE rating of more than 2000. The school management principal and staff congratulated Sherali Patnaik on her achievement.
It’s a matter of honour that Vihaan Tiwari of class V-B participated in Dehradun District Badminton Championship in Under-11 category and secured 1st position in the same. The tournament was held on 27th June 2024 at the Parade ground, Dehradun.
This annual event has become a cornerstone of the local sports calendar, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of young badminton players from across the district. The management, Principal and faculty appreciated the commendable performance of the winner and congratulated the sports department.
Ms. Sherali Pattnaik, a student of class 9, participated in the Under 17 Girls Chess Championship organized by Uttarakhand State Chess Association.
Playing in this State Chess Championship is mandatory to participate in the National Chess Championship.
*Sherali Pattnaik secured 1st position in the championship by scoring 4 out of 4 points* and now she will represent the state of Uttarakhand in the Under 17 National Chess Championship.

Sherali Pattnaik also participated in National Women Chess Championship and proving her worth yet again, she secured the first position in the championship by a perfect score of 3 on 3.
She will now represent State of Uttarakhand in National senior women chess championship with the hopes of making her home state proud in the National tournament as well.

Our student, Ms Sherali Patnaik, has secured Best Lady Second Place Open Division in this prestigious tournament, showcasing remarkable talent, dedication, and strategic prowess.
This achievement not only reflects Sherali’s individual excellence but also highlights the caliber of students and the dedication of our school in nurturing talent and promoting extracurricular activities.
CBSE Zonal Shooting competition was held at Social Baluni school, Dehradun from 25October to 29 October 2023.
In 10 metre Air Pistol category, our students excelled and were honoured with medals and certificates.

It's a matter of pride that the students of Delhi Public school Dehradun participated in 13th Uttarakhand State Taekwondo championship on 30th September 2023 at Zhen Sports Academy and won the Winners Trophy in Uttarakhand State. Nearly 250 students from seven districts participated in the event in which Dehradun district stood first, Haridwar second and Pauri Garhwal stood third. Delhi Public school Dehradun stood first in State level scoring maximum number of medals and achieved the Winners Trophy. The winners are:

Both the students secured silver medal and bronze medal respectively at the SFA Shooting Championship in Air Pistol U14 and U17 categories and qualified for the National Championship. The Yoga Association of Uttarakhand organised the 15th Uttarakhand State Yoga Championship on 8th October 2023, Sunday at Multipurpose Sports Hall parade ground Dehradun, under the Fit India Campaign, Govt. of India. The students of Delhi Public school, Dehradun participated in the event and won 15 medals in different categories i.e 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 8 Bronze under the able guidance of Ms Nupur Bhui.

An Inter House Football Competition was held in Delhi Public school Dehradun on 24th and 25th May 2023. Principal Shri B K Singh and Vice Principal Ms Sujata Singh inaugurated the tournament. More than 100 students of six houses participated in the competition. Sutlej house stood first , Yamuna house second and Ravi house stood third in the competition. Principal congratulated the winners and wished all participants luck.
The Inter House Basketball tournaments for Boys and Girls were held in Delhi Public school Dehradun on 27th and 29th May 2023. Principal Shri B K Singh and Vice Principal Ms Sujata Singh inaugurated the match. In Boys category Jhelum house won the first place, Yamuna second place and Chenab won the third place. In Girls category, Ravi won the first place, Chenab second and Jhelum won the third place. Principal congratulated the winners and applauded the sporting skills of all participants.

It's a matter of pride that Anubhav Mehta of class XI D, who participated in Uttarakhand Arm Wrestling Competition in above 80kg category and secured 2nd position in state level and selected for national . The competition was held on 7th May 2023 at Pantagon Mall, Haridwar in which nearly 500 school students participated. Principal Shri B K Singh applauded him and conferred with medal.
The Annual Terry for Run was held on 14th April, 2023 at The Doon World School, Miss Jhanvi Khan of class XII D bagged the 20th position. She also participated in the Sarmang Marathon and in the 28th Inter School Roller Skating championship held on the 16th April 2023 in which she bagged the first position in the girls category and bagged a gold medal in roll-ball, a silver in rink race respectively.
